Create Services

Services are the basic unit of a Service Catalog and are organized under service categories. Each Service becomes a CI in the database. If you relate other services to a parent service CI, the costs are rolled up to the parent.

Create Service

To create a service and placed it under the correct category in the catalog:

  1. From the CMDB homepage, click the Service Catalog button in the CMDB Toolbar. The Service Catalog is displayed.
  2. Click the Service Category to which you want to add a service. You can continue in this manner to drill-down through sub-categories, if there are any, until you find the level to which you want to add the service.
  3. Click the Add Service button at the top of the page. The Create Service page is displayed. The fields of this page consist of:
  1. You can attach files to the service. Select the Attachments tab and click the Attach File button to attach a file to a service. Full details on attachments are in the section of this document titled File Attachments.
  2. Click the SAVE button to create the Service. It will be displayed to when they view the category under which you saved it.

File Attachments

On the Create Service page, you can optionally attach one or more files from your local or network drive(s).

To attach a file:

  1. On the Create Service page, select the Attachments tab and then click the “Attach File” button. This brings up a small window entitled “Upload Attachment”.
  2. Click the “Browse” button to browse your local machine and/or network drives for the file.
  3. When you find the file, highlight it and click “Open”. The file name and path now appears in the File Attachment window

NOTE

The CMDB Administrator may have set a limit for the size of file attachments – this information appears in the file Attachment window. If the file is too large, you will receive an error message. Please attach a smaller file.

  1. Click the GO button to upload the file. When the upload is finished, the file name will appear in the “Create Service” form.
  2. To attach additional files, repeat steps 1-4 for each file to be attached.

NOTE

You can continue to work on the Service while the file is uploading, but you must wait until the upload is complete to submit the Service.
